February spells fun at The Bowes Museum, with a selection of entertaining and educational family events on the agenda.
Take a Voyage of Spendour and Festivity on 12 February as we celebrate the Regatta on the Grand Canal, inspired by the Museum’s Canaletto painting. Be transported to Venice, make sparkly masquerade masks, fans and your own gondola in this drop in session, which takes place from 11.00 – 4.00.
Have a go at designing your very own Valentine’s card for someone special on 13 and 14 February, using print techniques. This Happy Valentine drop in session, which is suitable for all ages, also runs from 11.00 – 4.00, with all equipment, including protective aprons, provided.
Or why not create some Medieval Mayhem on 15 or 16 February? Taking inspiration from the Museum’s current exhibition Streatlam Castle: Rediscover the Home of John & Joséphine Bowes, you can produce a shield bearing your family Coat of Arms. These drop in sessions, where you can collage, draw and build your shield to take home, occur from 11.00 – 2.00 on 15 February and from 11.00 – 4.00 on 16 February.
For each of these sessions children must be accompanied by an adult for whom normal Museum admission applies.
The Bowes Museum, Café Bowes and Shop are open daily from 10.00. A full programme of events and exhibitions is available by calling 01833 690606 or by viewing the website at www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk.
