Artist Linda Birch, illustrator of Bagpuss & The Clangers, is to have an exhibition of her work at The Bowes Museum, where she holds regular painting classes.

Beyond Bagpuss – an Artist’s Journey, which opens on 20th October, is an exploration of Linda’s paintings and illustrations, from her early days of working with the legendary animators Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate – which included drawings of the first nipples (on mermaids!) to be shown on the BBC – through her long career as painter, teacher and writer.

The exhibition will feature work from Bagpuss, along with artwork from the BBC’s Jackanory, plus around 40 works, including new paintings, outlining her 40 year career.
