Salary: £14,000 (pro rata)

The postholder will join a successful department which has managed and delivered a lively programme of arts-based sessions for school pupils at key stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the past ten years. The current team has developed unique projects via Renaissance funding from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, as well as one-off initiatives funded by other strands, such as the Raising Attainment arts project with key stage 4 pupils in 2010 and an e-learning project in partnership with The Wallace Collection.
The postholder will be responsible for delivering education workshops to primary and secondary students; in addition, they will also help devise and lead themed workshops in the school holidays, aimed at families and young people, based on the museum collections and the temporary exhibitions programme. The department is ready to rise to the challenges of a new partnership with Beamish Museum and Arts Council England and to seek new funding opportunities, both of which will take it on new journeys.
· Deliver lively and imaginative arts-based lessons to key stage 1-5 students, both at the Museum and as outreach
· Assist in the delivery of informal learning e.g. After School Club
· Assist in the development and delivery of school holiday family activities, aimed at offering exciting and participative events
· Prepare materials and equipment for all sessions and activities
· Develop quizzes and simple interactives for family audiences
· Maintain a high level of cleanliness and tidiness in the education vaults, ensuring that equipment and materials are kept safe and organised and that the vaults are fit for use at all times by schools or by other staff for pre-booked meetings
· Familiarise oneself with the bookings procedures for schools, check the availability of space and resources for visits and ensure that the needs of all parties are met before and during the visit
· Participate in the evaluation process by collecting information and questionnaires to inform current and future plans
· Contribute to internal team meetings and planning meetings as required and to external meetings if directed by the Education Coordinator
· Liaise with other departments as requested, for example curatorial, conservation or marketing, to help develop programmes that are accurate, relevant and make the most of the knowledge and expertise available within the Museum
· Undertake training as requested
· Adhere to the general principles and policies of The Bowes Museum
· Ensure that Health & Safety is at all times observed
