Study Centre

This facility will be developed to complement the new accessible store. A library, archive and study centre directly above the redeveloped store will occupy the fourth floor of this space, housing library and rare books. It will also contain the John and Joséphine Bowes’ archive currently not accessible to the public, the works on paper collection, and provide access to the internet and Adlib, the online database of the Museum’s collections. There will be facilities for individuals and groups of learners, staff, and researchers, primarily from GCSE upwards. The centre will be staffed by volunteers during normal opening hours with appropriate professional support. Public use of the space will be encouraged, in line with the Museum’s policy of encouraging wider educational use of the building and collections. The space will be accessed by extending the main passenger lift up to the fourth floor.
