Florid Cruciform Brooch
An unusual cruciform brooch, excavated from burial 2, in an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Easington. It lacks the usual side and top knobs (so its shape is not strictly 'cruciform'). It was originally gilded, though it is now heavily worn, and was probably worn near the shoulder as a dress or cloak fastener together with another brooch found with this burial. The head and foot plates are decorated with animal type designs and there is a flat garnet inlaid in each. The sex of the person to whom this belonged is unknown.
