Carved Stone Fragment

This fragment is part of a twelfth-thirteenth century cross-shaft, which is traditionally thought to have been taken to Neasham Hill from Neasham Abbey. The front face has scenes from the crucifixion, the carving on the back is of three draped figures, on one side is an inscription (in Latin) and on the opposite face is a pilgrim with a staff. It is carved from fine grained sandstone, and is heavily weathered.
