This tile has the maker's mark NCON stamped into the surface, which stands for NUMERUS CONNANIS. This shows that it was made by soldiers of the Numerus Connanis who were based in Chester-le-Street. The tile was found at Binchester Roman Fort during an archaeological excavation.
