Polished Stone Axe

This axe is made of a dark speckled stone, which has been highly polished to form a very smooth surface. Such axe heads were made in numerous areas of Britain; where they were made can be identified by the type of stone that has been used. This stone was found in a Neolithic axe 'factory' in Langdale, Cumbria.
