Standing Wine Cup, 1635
The bowl of inverted bell shaped form, the lower part chased with pomegranate motifs and foliage, the upper part chased around the rim with stylised leaf ornament and the inscription 'Barnard * Castle * The* 14 * April * 1635'. The plain baluster stem supported on a shallow domed circular foot with similar pomegranate and leaf ornamentation. The cup appears to have been to Sir Talbot Bowes on retirement of his position of Head Steward of the Manor of Barnard Castle. Purchased of the assistance of the V&A Purchase Grant Fund and The Art Fund. Size: Height: 25.6 cm.
