Women's Day Dress
Day dress of white cotton with scalloped hem, trimmed with lace.
The simplicity of this dress led to it being classed as a petticoat, but the detail and quality of the sewing and trimmings suggest that it was worn as a dress. It may have been a nursing dress and the front bodice has a button flap in addition to the back fastening.
The sleeve is showing the distinctive 'gigot' or 'leg of mutton' shape, which was emerging by 1827.
