Woman's Dress
Grey wool and silk flecked fabric with deep striped border of dark brown with cream and green satin stripes. It is trimmed with a green and cream silk fringe. This style provides a good alternative to the floral patterns of the 1850s. It illustrates the use of fringing as a trimming, which was popular. The fringe often framed a pointed shape at the front of the bodice. Sleeve flounces were also trimmed with a matching fringe. The buttons on the bodice are made of gilt metal with white glass centres.
