Woman's Dress
Royal blue silk dress trimmed with white satin and decorative cornflower buttons.
The first synthetic or aniline dyes were invented in 1856. Royal blue was a fashionable colour and was often used with white. This dress is a good example of his technique. The contrast of the white satin and royal blue gives it a striking appearance.
