Woman's Evening Dress
Evening dress of warp printed silk and finely striped cream silk gauze. Trimmed with printed pink and cream chine ribbon and blonde lace. The skirt of this dress has three double flounces woven with narrow stripes and broad warp printed band 'a disposition'. This was a technique widely used in the 1850s to emphasise the horizontal line of the skirts. The flounces were printed in position' so that the patterns lay correctly across the skirt.
