Day Dress
Dress of white linen, printed with a fern and campion design in brown, 1868-70.
Linen was worn as well as cotton for summer dresses in the 1860s. This dress has a separate overskirt and an apron to form soft drapery at the back and front of the skirt. The overskirt has a series of tapes on the underside, which tie vertically to form puffs of fabric behind.
