Women's Dress
Dress of buff-coloured alpaca, trimmed with blue satin, 1870.
Alpaca was often listed as a suitable fabric for seaside dress, suitable for cooler days. The skirt is set without pleats at the front, so the fullness of the skirt sweeps towards the back. The belt, with a frilled basque and bow draws emphasis to the new bustle shape.
