Reliquary

Reliquary of carved, painted and gilded pinewood, designed to be carried on a pole as a banner in procession. The reliquary is carved in similar manner on front and back faces. The arched, glassed recess is framed with scrolls and cherub heads with, above, a broken pediment flanking a cherub's head supporting a plinth (the finial missing). Below the arch two back-curving cherubs support the whole. The acanthus-carved base boss shows the fixing point for a staff.
