Armorial Cartouche
One of a set of four. Oval cartouche with pierced, scrolled rococo frame, gilded and painted, the main field showing a gold cross on a red ground.
The cartouche and frame are constructed of two layers of wood, allowing for the bombe shaping of the main field, cut away at the back to reduce weight so that fromthe back the central plaque is entirely visible through the framing layer. The visible frame, entirely gilded, shows C-scrolls and pierced shell motifs.
