Puzzle Jug
Puzzle jug of pear shaped form with cylindrical neck, the neck pierced with decoration to form flower heads and other ornament. The neck terminating in a broad ridge with three projecting spouts from which springs a loop handle. The whole is raised on a shallow foot. Decorated with a border depicting a young man in mid 18th century costume presenting a spray of leaves to a young woman who holds in her hand a fan, closed, within a landscape. On the other side a donkey type animal and a seated woman with the inscription - Je pleure ce que bien, dauter (d'auter) vous drait a voir (voudrait avoir) perdu - I weep for/regret what many another would like to have lost/destroyed. Size: Height: 20.5 cm.
