Chimneypiece
Chimneypiece of yellow Sienna marble. In front of the two jambs or uprights are two free-standing pillars, with human feet and heads of Egyptian women made from gilt bronze. The heads support the projecting frieze and cornice. The frieze is decorated with gilt bronze laurel wreaths and a female mask in the centre. The style reflects contemporary interest in Egyptian archaeology and decorative motifs following Napoleon Is excavations in Egypt. Purchased with the assistance of the V&A Purchase Grant Fund.
