Chair
One of a pair of mid 19th century varnished beechwood chairs in the late seventeenth century style. The heavily padded backs and sprung and padded seats are upholstered in a crimson cotton sateen. Marks of old tacks suggest that the present covering is not original, or is perhaps a lining. From lists of items sent to the Museum from Streatlam Castle after John Bowes' death, these chairs appear to have been made for the billiard room, with the stool FW.299. Size: Height: 93 cm; Width: 47 cm; Depth: 43 cm.
