Armchair
Part of a set of seat furniture which were re-furbished by Monbro for the Bowes’s Blue Salon at 7 rue de Berlin, Paris, in 1856. A bill lists the cleaning, re-polishing and re-upholstery of a set of 'tulipwood' seat furniture for 400 francs, for the sofa (FW.92), 4 armchairs (FW.93a-d) and 4 chairs (FW.94a-d). This example is upholstered with an 18th century Aubsson or Beauvais tapestry back cover depcitng a seated man playing bagpipes; on the seat is a fable scene of wolf and cock.
