Table Cabinet

17th century with 19th century additions. This style of marquetry was developed by Italian marqueters active in Germany towards the end of the Renaissance. There are few solid wood sections, the veneers are mainly of soft woods, and the veneers are heavily sand shaded. Green veneer was usually cut from poplar wood that had been naturally stained by the fungus Chlorosphenium. The green has survived for nearly four centuries. This particular example depicts hunting scenes. Size: Height: 44.5 cm; Width: 75.5 cm; Depth: 33 cm
