Bookcase
Made from carved mahogany, this bookcase is set on castors so that it can be easily moved around a room, or even from room to room. The top of the bookcase is set with a silver-plate plaque recording the original contents of the bookcase. These were 41 volumes of the Regents Edition of the Latin Classics, including works by Plato and Ovid. The plaque also states that the bookcase was a gift from King George IV to the grandson of the Earl of Eldon, shortly before the young man went to Oxford. The plaque was added afterwards to records the royal gift. Purchased with the assistance of the V&A Purchase Grant Fund. Size: Height: 96 cm; Length: 78 cm; Depth: 55 cm.
