Stamped Pierre Roussel. This piece has been scraped many times in its lifetime to restore the vibrancy of its original colour scheme. Coloured woods become brown with age, and it was common practice to scrape marquetry in this way. There has been a resultant loss in the detailing of the marquetry. Roussel (1723-1782 master bniste 1745) was a prominent French cabinet maker of the 18th century. He is particularly known for his marquetry work. Size: Height - 145 cm; Width - 92 cm; Depth - 38 cm.
