Cabinet on stand
The cabinet is Dutch and dates from the late 17th century. It has many drawers, and was designed for storing precious things. Its carcase is made of oak with pine doors and drawers, veneered in ebony and turtleshell. The stand was made in the late 19th century to display the cabinet. In an effort to unite the two pieces, the cabinet maker has taken two drawer fronts from the cabinet and used them on the stand, replacing them with dummy book spines above.
