Regatta on the Grand Canal, 1730s

Looking north east from the first bend of the Grand Canal, on each side crowds watch the race from windows (some with awnings and festive hangings), roofs, canal-side, gondolas etc. Some of the spectators wear carnival-time white masks and black capes. In the far distance is the Rialto Bridge. Purchased of the assistance of the MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund, the National Art Collections Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Size: 218.4 x 149.8 cm
