Temporary Gallery Closures

The Fashion & Textile Gallery
The gallery is currently being decanted of all objects, but remains open at the this time, with reduced displays. The gallery will close on Friday 6 May. It will re-open on 11 June with the exhibition Shoes: Pleasure & Pain, from the Victoria & Albert Museum.
A selection of 20th century costume from The Bowes Museum collection will be on display at the Garden Rooms, at Tennants Auction House, Leyburn, from 4 July until 12 September.

Private Function
On 23 April, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed from 12 noon for a private function.

Weddings
On 29 April, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed in the afternoon.

On 30 April, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery and The Music Room will be closed all day. If the weather is inclement, the Religious Picture Gallery will be closed between 1.30 and 3.00.

On 21 May, The three Picture Galleries on the second floor of the Museum will be closed between 12.00 and 1.15. The Silver Swan Gallery will re-open at 1.15 and all other Picture Galleries will re-open at 2.00.

On 28 May, The Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery and The Silver Swan Gallery will be closed between 10.30 and 12.30.

On 2 July, From Temple to Home:Celebrating Ganesha will be closed between 1.15 and 2.45 and the Music Room will be closed until 3.30. In the event of inclement weather, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed between 1.00 and 4.00.

On 9 and 16 July The Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery and the Music Room will be closed all day.

On 23 July,  The Music Room will be closed all day, and the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed between 12.30 and 2.15.

On 30 July, The Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed all day and the Music Room will be closed between 11.00 and 1.00. In the event of inclement weather, the Religious Picture Gallery will be closed in the afternoon.

On 6 August, The Music Room will be closed from 3.00. In the event of inclement weather, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed from 4.00.

On 13 August, The Music Room will be closed from 2.00.

On 20 August, The Music Room will be closed all day and From Temple to Home:Celebrating Ganesha will be closed from 10.00-12.00.

On 25 August, The Music Room will be closed from 2.00.

On 3 September, The Music Room will be closed from 12.00. In the event of inclement weather, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed from 3.00.

On 10 September, The Music Room will be closed all day. In the event of inclement weather, the Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed from 2.30.

On 24 September, The Nineteenth Century Picture Gallery will be closed all day and the Music Room will be closed from 2.00.


The Bowes Museum is a registered charity. Admissions are donation inclusive and can be Gift Aided. For every £1.00 paid the Museum can reclaim 28p. If you are not a UK taxpayer or do not wish to make a charitable donation the admission prices are as follows: Adults £9.25, Concessions £8.50, 6 Month Admission Pass £14.00.
