Life in the Victorian Capital with Judith Flanders

In her book, The Victorian City: Everyday Life in Dickens’ London, Judith Flanders uses Charles Dickens in fact and fiction as her guide and brings to life the street-life of the 19th century, including street children, a city of pea-soup fogs and horse manure, and even gutters running with blood. Perfect for fans of Dickens and history buffs. Chaired by Professor Simon James.

Visitors to The Bowes cMuseum an also see a Dickens-related display, including a model of his house in London’s Doughty Street and account books relating to nearby Dotheboys Hall, the Yorkshire school featured in his novel, Nicholas Nickleby.

Tickets are £10, and £8 for Festival Friends and Friends of The Bowes Museum available from the Gala Theatre and can be collected from The Museum on the day.
