Grand Designs
Sat 03 Apr 04 - Mon 31 May 04

This exhibition looked at how the notable grand gardens of the North East were created and the personalities behind them. From competitions in pineapple growing to commissioning sweeping landscapes, these wealthy industrialists changed the face of many parts of the region. Unfortunately many of these gardens fell into disrepair and some even disappeared. The exhibition also looked at issues of conservation, regeneration and the re-use and relevance of great gardens today. It featured the Museum’s own grounds and asked you how best they should be developed. Guest curated by Landscape Historian, Fiona Green.
