‘Levitan versus Monet’- Lecture by Averil King, Tuesday 9th November, 10.15am, £16.00 (Friends) £17.50 (Guests)
While Monet was painting on the river Seine, just north of Paris, the Russian artist Levitan was painting on the shores of the mighty river Volga. Moreover, as Monet was beginning to paint his poplar trees and haystacks, and the waterlilies in his garden at Giverny, Levitan was portraying similar subjects, though in his case more often silver birches and quiet fields at twilight. Judge for yourself whether you prefer Monet’s joyous, impressionist works or the Russian’s more sombre and very atmospheric compositions. 10.15 for 10.30 start, coffee break, completion of talk, and lunch.

‘New World - Old World’ with Simon Wrightson, Tuesday 14th December, 10.30am, £16.00 (Friends), £17.50 (Guests)
Wrightson and Company are one of the UK's top small independent wine merchants, and we are privileged to welcome Simon Wrightson to entertain and inform us through this wine-tasting event. Meet at 10.30 for 11.00 start, followed by a wine and cheese lunch.

2010 Concert Programme

To assist The Museum and as a special effort for the Anniversary year, the Friends Committee have agreed that the Music Group can spend money raised from their 2009/2010 Concerts to help with the restoration of selected early keyboard instruments in The Museum’s collection. This project has already started and it is anticipated that the first of the restored instruments will be ready for Concert Royale to use at their concert next March here at The Bowes Museum, preceded by a weekend residency by this group. Next year we shall be asking for donations for this project; details will be available in each Newsletter, and we hope that you will agree that this is a suitable way for the Friends to assist The Museum to provide enjoyment for all, now and in the future, and will give generously.

Finally, The Music Group would like to offer you the opportunity to enjoy four concerts for the price of three, for the Concerts to be held in March, April, May and September.  Details of this offer and booking form will be in the 2010 Concert Programme which will be included with the Spring Newsletter.
