Before you Book

Visit Us

Wherever possible, you should visit the Museum prior to your wedding to discuss your needs with staff and to determine which gallery is most appropriate for you.  We will be happy to answer your questions and give advice.  Before your visit you may wish to consider the date and time of your wedding, how many guests you will have, if you would like music, and whether you would like a drinks reception.

Choose A Gallery

We have four rooms registered for civil ceremonies.  The Jubilee Room has been newly refurbished and provides a magnificent and unique setting with glorious views over Teesdale.  The drapes were specially commissioned and are made from Italian silk.  The carpet has been made to an original Barnard Castle design.

The Music Room provides a more intimate setting for parties of up to 80 guests.  The walls are hung with wonderful tapestries and fine art.  Being the Music Room, it also has a number of historic musical instruments.

The Ceramics Gallery, a bright room, can seat up to 80 guests.

The Picture Gallery can seat up to 240 guests.

We will arrange your chosen gallery according to your instructions where this is possible.  Our licenced galleries are on the second floor and have wonderful views over Teesdale.  There is a lift access to the galleries from the ground floor.

Check availability

Subject to availability, you can book our weddings for any day of the week at any time between 9am and 5pm.  It is sometimes possible to book other times by special arrangement.

Contact the Registrar

You should contact the local Registrar at the earliest stage of planning to agree the date of your wedding.  Please be aware that any fees due to the Registrar must be paid directly to that office and not to the Museum. For further information please contact:
