Festive Fare and Quality Crafts at The Bowes Museum’s Annual Christmas Market

The Bowes Museum and grounds are once again set to come alive with the sights, sounds and aromas of the annual Christmas Market.

A firm favourite in the regional calendar, the ever-popular event takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 14th, 15th and 16th December in the Museum grounds, with entrance to the Museum included.

Visitors can look forward to a wide range of fabulous locally sourced foodstuffs and crafts from some of the finest suppliers in the area, with around 100 hand-picked vendors offering superb ideas and products for those extra special presents or last minute treats.

Stallholders will be tempting the tastebuds with Belgian waffles, local gin, hot sandwiches, succulent sausages, homemade pies, artisan breads and cheeses, plus delicious sauces and dressings, while gift hunters can shop for handmade decorations and presents including jewellery, stained glass, leather goods, clothing, beautiful candles and ceramics.

Live music adds to the festive atmosphere with performances by local bands, schools and community groups that will include seasonal entertainment.

Traditional fairground rides are included in the admission price to the Market, while new for 2018 will be a food and entertainment area where you can enjoy festive food and music while warming up with some hot mulled wine.

Step inside the Museum to take part in children’s crafts and activities in the galleries and learn more about the Museum’s treasures via interactive talks and demonstrations. Children booked to see Santa between 14th and 16th December (£10.00 including gift) will be admitted free of charge to the Christmas Market, while adults will pay just £5.00, which also includes admission to the Museum. Entry to the Market and Museum only is £5.00 per adult and £2.50 per child.

Why not combine your visit with a peek at the current exhibition, Catwalking: Fashion through the Lens of Chris Moore. The exhibition brings together 230 of the photographer’s original images alongside 40 original catwalk outfits from some of the world’s leading fashion houses including Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Giles Deacon, Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Yves Saint Laurent.

The market takes place from noon - 7pm on Friday 14th, 10am – 5pm on Saturday 15th and 10am – 4pm on Sunday 16th December. Complimentary park and ride Santa buses will run on the latter two days and there will be an onsite parking charge of £5.00 per vehicle on those days.

Visitors please note that there will be no access to the market via the rear gate in Crook Lane.
