How To Get Here

By Car

The Museum is situated in the beautiful market town of Barnard Castle, County Durham in the heart of the countryside of North East England. It is easily reached from all major roads, being just a mile off the A66, 20 minutes from Scotch Corner and the A1, and 40 minutes from the M6 at Penrith. We have free on-site parking, and accessible parking bays. For those using  satellite navigation our postcode is DL12 8NP.

By Bus
Bus services run regularly to Barnard Castle from Darlington. Arriva services 75 & 76 leave for Barnard Castle from stand M outside Darlington Town Hall at half hourly intervals. Darlington Town Hall is a 10 minute walk from the rail station. Taxis are available at the rail station. To travel from Bishop Auckland by bus, Arriva service 8 leaves Bondgate in Bishop Auckland at 2 hourly intervals.

To travel from Richmond, Hodgson's service 79 leaves Richmond Market Place at 2 hourly intervals. The Barnard Castle terminus for all these services is in Galgate.

For the duration of the exhibition, Durham County Council have generously agreed to provide coach travel on Saturday and Sundays for 50 people (on a first come, first served basis) between Claypath (Millennium Place) and The Bowes Museum leaving Durham at 10.00 and returning from the Museum at 4.00. Fares are £21.00 which includes admission to the Yves Saint Laurent: Style is Eternal Exhibition and the Museum.

By Train
The Bowes Museum is 23 miles from Darlington rail station which is on the East coast main line. This is regularly served by high speed Virgin trains from London (2 hrs 30 mins), York (30 mins), Newcastle (30 mins) and Edinburgh (2 hrs).

The East coast mainline terminating at London Kings Cross is ideal for travel links direct to the very heart of the European cities of Paris, Brussels and Lille with high speed
Eurostar services. 

The use of a car will make your journey to The Bowes Museum as seamless as possible, Enterprise Cars
deliver their cars to Darlington rail station and greet customers there.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Durham Tees Valley (previously known as Teesside). The region's main airport is Newcastle. It has metro links into Newcastle city centre with ongoing rail links to Darlington from Newcastle Central Station.

By Ferry

The nearest ferry ports are Newcastle Ferry Terminal (36 miles) and Hull Ferry Terminal (113 miles).
