Turkish Tulips is an exhibition of colourful and crazy tulips displayed as a ‘flower trail’ around the galleries of The Bowes Museum. This symbolic flower has obsessed people from the east to the west for hundreds of years. It has fascinated artists too – the tulip has appeared in paintings, sculptures, furniture, ceramics and textiles, representing so many things to different peoples. The internationally-renowned artists invited to be part of the Turkish Tulips exhibition have presented tulips in very diverse ways, from a straight portrait to an ‘exploded’ tulip.
