Ann Gill - Designer-maker/Dress/Costume/Millinery

Ann has a lifelong interest in art and craft and started sewing in her late teens, making clothes for family and friends. She went on to study as a mature student in fashion, costume design and millinery at The Cleveland College of Art, achieving a BA Hons 1st class. As well as improving her sewing, she discovered a love of making hats.

Since graduating, Ann accepts commissions for bespoke garments and hats for both weddings and day wear.
Ann is also a short course tutor at Northern School of Art, Marlborough Summer School and Higham Hall. Currently Ann enjoys experimenting with textile art.

Ann on #Untitled 10

I used specific items from the Museum's Fashion and Textile collection, such as Elsa Schiaparelli’s Serpent Dress, as inspiration for my work for the #Untitled10 project. As well as drawing on existing millinery and sewing skills, I wanted to gain further knowledge in this field. #Untitled10 allowed me to do that. My experience is documented in my reflective journal, accompanied by examples of experimental techniques developed throughout this commission.
