Kit Haigh - Artist/Photographer/Musician

Kit is an artist working across music, photography and interactive installation. Following a thirty-year international career in performance and composition, which includes major award-winning collaborations, Kit is currently focusing on exploring the power of music and sound to transform our emotional perception of spaces. Using found sounds from the space itself, rather than conventional instruments, he creates truly site specific, generative pieces that are quickly familiar, yet constantly changing.

Kit on #Untitled10

I have been allowed unprecedented access to The Bowes Museum’s collection of seldom heard 18th & 19th century instruments, using their fragile sounds as field recordings, rather than playing them conventionally. The sounds will be digitally tuned and treated so that the music room in which the instruments are displayed as static antiquities is animated by their voices, as if in strange conversation with each other.
