Explore patterned decoration in the galleries and have a go at printing your own designs. 


Excellent range of technical vocabulary shared and learnt by the children. Lots of pattern techniques explored and used.

10.00 - 11.30 Object handling and trail looking for patterns in the Museum. 
11.30 - 12.30 Lunch (a room is provided)
12.30 - 2.00 Children try printing different patterns.
2.00 Silver Swan performance (optional)

Key Stage 1 - To develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour and pattern

Key Stage 2 - To improve their mastery of art and design techniques


Year 1 & 2 (Geometry)  - Recognise and name common 2-D shapes;  describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three quarter turns; order and arrange combinations of mathematical objects in patterns and sequences

Year 3 & 4 (Geometry) - Draw 2-D shapes and make 3-D shapes using modelling materials

Year 5 & 6 (Geometry)  Identify, describe and represent the position of a shape following a reflection or translation, using the appropriate language, and know that the shape has not changed
