A Platinum Jubilee Celebration is open

Come and see previously unseen footage of Her Majesty The Queen as a child in the latest exhibition to open at The Bowes Museum which celebrates her time on the throne.

Members of the public have generously lent lots of items to the time line of street parties and children from primary schools in Barnard Castle and Bishop Auckland have created a Commonwealth mosaic which can all be seen in the gallery alongside a film of street parties in Kalafat in Barnard Castle in the 1970s.

The exhibition is a special one which also celebrates the Museum's links with the Royal family.

Last chance to see Martin Kinnear's Regeneration exhibition

Last day open is Monday, 2 May

Last chance to see Martin Kinnear's Regeneration exhibition

There are just a few days left to see Martin Kinnear's solo exhibition, Regeneration.

This powerful and moving show was created especially for The Bowes Museum  by the international award winning North Yorkshire based artist.

It's about the year the world came to a halt and what happens when plans are cancelled, futures are placed in doubt and the life-affirming power of change.

The exhibition features more than 13 of Kinnear's paintings,  nine works by competition winners from across the country and the audio of the poetry competition winners reading their entries as well as a 16 foot high animation at its centre, inspired by  High Force waterfall in Teesdale.

Easter fun at The Bowes Museum

There's lots to see and do over the school holidays

Join in the fun at The Bowes Museum this Easter holiday.

Meet Alice in Wonderland and the White Rabbit or embrace your inner artist and get creative in the galleries.

There's also a return of the ever popular LEGO® WEDO 2 robotics and coding workshops and on Easter Sunday you can even take part in a theatrical workshop and performance too.

Don't forget to check out the Easter trail in the grounds that was created using artworks made during the February half term break inspired by Martin Kinnear's Regeneration exhibiton.

Can you help us stage a special exhibition marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee?

Send us your memories and pics of souvenirs or street parties that could be included in the exhibition.

We need your help to put on a special exhibition marking Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Do you have any memories of the Queen's visits to Teesdale that you can share with The Bowes Museum?  We'd love to hear them and see any souvenirs or   photographs of previous jubilee street party celebrations in the area.

The Museum's staging A Platinum Jubilee Celebration from 8 May until 5 June and wants to celebrate the area's links to the Royal Family, including an area dedicated to the community's celebrations.

If you've anything you think that might be of interest, please send your recollections and photographs of your souvenirs or pictures to jubilee@thebowesmuseum.org.uk by 22 April 2022.
